Deuteronomy 9:1-3 - NKJV
1 “Hear, O Israel: You are to cross over the Jordan today, and go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,
2 a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you heard it said, “Who can stand before the descendants of Anak?”
Moses stood before them as the oracle of God to speak the word of God to them. All attention was focused on the old prophet of God as they waited to hear what he would say. Perhaps in that moment they were expecting a pep talk. Perhaps in that moment they expected Moses to say that it wasn’t really as bad as the previous generation thought it was. Maybe, this time it would be different. Perhaps, this time the prize will be easily gained. Instead, Moses declares to them the clear, unvarnished truth. Yes, there really is a land that flows with milk and honey. And, yes, it is occupied by nations that are still greater and stronger than Israel. Their cities are still formidable with walls that reach to the sky. In this stark moment of reality, Moses informed those would be conquerors, that nothing had changed in the last 40 years. Tomorrow, we enter the Promised Land, but you must know... There will be giants there!
Giants must be conquered. Giants cannot be appeased. Giants cannot be tamed. Giants cannot be bought off. Giants cannot be our friends. NO! Giants must be conquered. And that is what I love about God. HE is a giant killer. There is no giant that has ever conquered Him. There is no Giant that could ever overtake Him. The thing though, God doesn’t conquer giants that you allow to live with you.
He puts it on us. He says, “I will evict the giants in your life, but you must be the one to serve the eviction notice.” God will never evict something that has your permission to stay. Not only are we allowing giants to remain, we flirt with other giants that have strongholds in our family. We know that our bloodline has certain problems yet we find our selves intentionally flirting with giants that has conquered our family members. And for some reason we think that they won’t conquer us then get surprised when our promise land is filled with giants that have fortified cities in it.
Your giants have to be conquered and God is wanting to raise you up to become the spiritual Giant that not only conquers your giants but your bloodline’s giants.
Not all giants are large in physical stature, some are mighty in spiritual stature.
Caleb was an 85-year-old man. I’m certain that he was no frail weak spindly individual but you can rest assured that he was not the same man who first stood on those mountains and observed those giants 45 years ago.
The years take their toll, and even a mighty warrior like Caleb isn’t as fast as he used to be. He isn’t as strong as he once was. But listen to the words of this spiritual giant of a man,
As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.
I am praying that you be encouraged today! That you see that the giants you are facing are not unconquerable. Send them their eviction notice today!
